What Should He Wear to a Wedding? A Head-to-Toe Checklist for Boys

The invitation is on the fridge, the date is circled and you've already figured out your own outfit (mostly). Then someone asks: "What are the boys wearing?"

If that question makes your stomach drop a little, this list is for you. Here's everything he needs, from head to toe, plus a few tips that make the night easier for everyone.

The checklist

1. The blazer

This is the piece that makes the whole outfit. Look for a blazer that fits through the shoulders and closes comfortably without pulling across the middle.

Fit tip: our blazers come in Regular husky and Wide husky. Wide is 2 inches wider, perfect if blazers usually feel snug across his middle.

2. The pants

Matching pants turn a blazer into a suit. Choose a jogger waist style if he'll be sitting at a long dinner. The adjustable waistband keeps him comfortable all night.

Not sure about length? Our pants come in Short, Regular and Tall, and each has a 2-inch hidden hem for easy tailoring.

3. The dress shirt

A crisp white shirt goes with everything. Our White Knit Dress Shirt has a soft cotton blend with a cozy stretch, so it looks formal but feels comfortable. That really matters by the time dessert comes out.

4. The belt

The MOFI Reversible Belt flips from black to navy, so one belt works with any of the suits above.

5. The extras

  • Dress shoes (broken in before the wedding, not that night!)
  • Dress socks that match his pants
  • A tie or bow tie, if he's wearing one
  • A warm layer or coat for the trip to and from the hall

6. The food plan

  • Feed him before he gets dressed. A hungry kid at picture time is a hangry kid. (We may know this from experience.)
  • Pack stain-free snacks. Think pretzels or crackers, just in case hunger hits once he's all dressed up.

Timing: when to shop

Order early. Give yourself time for him to try everything on at home, and time for an exchange if you need a different size. Check our shipping and returns pages so you know your timeline.

The dress rehearsal

A few days before, have him try on the whole outfit, shoes included. Let him sit, walk around and even dance a little. If anything pinches, pulls or bunches, you'll find out now instead of in the car.

Quick mom tip

Pack a small "wedding-day kit" in your bag: a stain wipe, a safety pin and a spare pair of socks. Trust us on this one.

When he looks in the mirror and stands a little taller, you'll know it was worth it.
